Pocket-sized Booklets Available M any SAR members have pocketsized booklets containing the texts of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. These booklets are published by a number of organizations, including the U.S. Government Printing Office, Center for Civic Education, Cato Institute, Heritage Foundation and others. Now, add the SAR to the list of publishers. President General Joseph W. Dooley has had 2,000 copies printed of an SAR booklet of the Declaration and the Constitution. He gave a copy to everyone who was at the Installation Banquet, and he is making 25 copies available for free to every state society. Beyond these first 25 copies, state societies and members can purchase these booklets for only $1 each from NSSAR Merchandise. These 2,000 copies are only the first run—more will be printed as needed. Dooley believes every SAR member should carry a booklet at all times. More importantly, he asks chapters and state societies to distribute them to elementary and high school students. SAR chapters and state committees for eight years; the Congress Planning Committee for seven years; the History Committee for five years; the Magazine Editorial Committee and the Museum Board for four years; the Council of State Presidents for three years, serving as chairman and vice chairman for one year each; and the Council of Vice Presidents General as chairman. He also served on the National Gallery Exhibit Space Task Force for two years. He has attended six Congresses and 17 Leadership Meetings. He is a George Washington Fellow and a contributor to the CAAH. P Richard W. Sage of the Empire State Society was escorted by Jonathan E. Goebel (Class of 2011). Compatriot Sage has served the National Society as Historian General and as a Vice President General of the North Atlantic District for two terms; a member of the Nominating Committee and a national trustee for the ESSAR and NJSSAR and as an alternate trustee. Sage was the first-line signer for 103 new compatriots and assisted in the creation of the Battle of Brooklyn Chapter. He has served faithfully for many years on national committees, most notably the Historic Sites and Celebrations Committee for 14 years; the Membership Committee for eight years; the SAR-W3R (Washington, Rochambeau Revolutionary Route) Committee for seven years; the George and Stella Knight Essay Contest Committee for seven years, serving as chairman for two of those years and developing the medal awarded for the contest; vice chairman of the DAR Liaison Committee for five years; the Council of Vice President Generals for three years; the Council of State Presidents for two years; and as a member of the History Group while Historian General. He has attended 12 Congresses and 31 Leadership Meetings. He developed the NSSAR History Award presented at the United States Military Academy. He is a George Washington Fellow and a contributor to the CAAH. P J. Michael Tomme Sr. of the Georgia Society was escorted by George E. Thurmond (Class of 2008). Compatriot Tomme has served the National Society as Registrar General, as a trustee and as an alternate trustee for the GASSAR. Tomme was the first-line signer for 21 new compatriots and assisted in organizing the Wiregrass and the Four Rivers Patriots chapters. He has served faithfully for many years on national committees, most notably the Americanism Committee for 10 years, serving as chairman for four of those years; the Children of the American Revolution Liaison, the Color Guard, and the Medals and Awards committees for nine years each; the Veterans Committee and Hospitality and Music Committee for six years each; the Congress Planning Committee and the CAAH Advisory Task Force for five years; the 250th SUMMER 2013 societies also are encouraged to give this booklet to guests at chapter and state meetings, contestants in essay or oration contests, JROTC or ROTC cadets sponsored by the chapter or state society, and Eagle Scouts sponsored by the chapter or state society. There will be other opportunities for SAR compatriots, chapters and state societies to distribute copies of the Declaration and the Constitution—now in a booklet with our name on it. Anniversary of the American Revolution, the Patriotic Education and the Youth Activities committees for four years; the George Washington Endowment Funds Board for three years, serving as vice chairman one of those years; the Task Force for New Member Orientation, the Genealogy, the Finance and the Retention and Reinstatement committees for two years each. He also has served as the SAR Color Guard adjutant and SAR Color Guard commander for two years each. He has attended six Congresses and 20 Leadership Meetings. He is a George Washington Fellow and a contributor to the CAAH. P Robert F. Towns of the Georgia Society was escorted by David N. Appleby (Class of 2006). Compatriot Towns has served the National Society as Vice President General of the International District; as a member of the Executive Committee; as a national trustee and an alternate trustee for the GASSAR. He additionally served as the appointed Inspector General for one year. Towns was the first-line signer for 39 new compatriots and assisted in the organizing of the Patrick Carr Rangers and Washington-Wilkes chapters. He has served faithfully for many years on national committees, most notably the ROTC/JROTC and Service Academies Committee for six years, serving as vice chairman for two years and chairman for two years; the Color Guard Committee for five years; as vice chairman of the Finance Committee, serving for three years; the Newsletters and Periodicals Committee for three years; the Library and Archives Committee for two years, serving as vice chairman; and the Council of Vice Presidents General, and Genealogy and the Strategic Planning committees. He has also served as the travel coordinator for the President General's England and Scotland trip. He has attended six Congresses and 12 Leadership Meetings. He is a George Washington Fellow and a contributor to CAAH and the ROTC/JROTC Fund. P Michael C. Wells of the Alabama Society was escorted by P. Rod Hildreth (Class of 2003). Compatriot Wells has served the National Society as Librarian General for two terms and as a national trustee and alternate trustee for the ALSSAR. Wells was the first-line signer for 17 new compatriots and assisted in the organizing of the Cullman and Cahaba Coosa chapters. He has served faithfully for many years on national committees, most notably the Library Committee for 10 years, serving as vice chairman for three of those years and chairman for six of those years; the Facility Committee for six years; the U.S. Stamp and Strategic Planning committees for five years each; and the CAAH Task Force for two years. He has attended 13 Congresses and 23 Leadership Meetings. He is a George Washington Fellow and a contributor to the CAAH. 9
