Business Sessions Conducted Following the posting of colors by the combined SAR Color Guard and an invocation by Chaplain General Rev. Dr. Randy D. Moody, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited and greetings presented. The seven Presidents General in attendance presented comments, led by Larry D. McClanahan (2001-02), who discussed the construction of The Center for Advancing America's Heritage on Main Street in Louisville and introduced a sneak peek by Solid Light, a comprehensive museum and exhibit design firm, showing how the 7,000-square-foot museum exhibit space may appear. Other PGs in attendance included Roland G. Downing (2005-06), Nathan E. White Jr. (2006-07), Bruce A. Wilcox (2007-08), David N. Appleby (2008-09), Edward F. Butler Sr. (200910), and J. David Sympson (2010-11). During Wednesday's business session, revisions were made to Bylaw 23 to bring it into compliance with state and federal laws in regards to SAR's investment policy, which will be discussed further at the Fall Leadership Meeting. A presentation by Bennett Greenspan of FamilyTreeDNA, a commercial firm offering genetic genealogy, proved popular with attendees. Betty Franklin, president of the National Ladies Auxiliary SAR, presented a ceremonial check representing the organzation's $100,000 donation to The Center for Advancing America's Heritage. Other Highlights Newly installed President General Dooley (see page 18) outlined initiatives he would like state socieites and chapters to strive toward during his term (see page 14). The Rumbaugh Oration Contest (see page 20) on Sunday evening and the Monday Youth Award Luncheon remained among the most popular and best-attended Congress events. American Legion National Commander James E. Koutz of Boonville, Ind., spoke during the Tuesday night banquet about his recent return trip to Vietnam. He also brought greetings during the Monday business session. SUMMER 2013 The Roger Sherman Medal may be awarded in recognition and appreciation of outstanding services rendered to the SAR. Joseph W. Dooley of Virginia, accompanied by his niece, Robin Heidenreich, was sworn in as the 110th President General of the SAR by Chancellor General John L. Dodd. 7
