formed rousing dances, and students from Paderewski School recited poetry. Dr. Thaddeus Radzilowski of Michigan, an award-winning historian and co-founder of the Piast Institute, gave an interesting account of Thaddeus Kosciuszko and his impact and contributions in the United States and in Poland. Later, the color guard led the group, nearly 300 strong, to the Kosciuszko monument for the unveiling, blessing and rededication of the statue. President John C. [Photo by Nancy Crowther] SOUTH CAROLINA SOCIETY OKLAHOMA SOCIETY Francis Marion statue dedicated Members of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the SAR participated in the Edmond, Okla., LibertyFest Parade on the Fourth of July. More than 50,000 spectators lined the 1.5mile parade route. The city of Johnsonville, in eastern Florence County, dedicated a statue of Brig. Gen. Francis Marion, "the Swamp Fox," at its annual Heritage Festival on May 18, while also celebrating its 100th anniversary. Mayor Steve Dukes headed this community project. The dedication was about three years in the making as many Johnsonville officials and residents provided financial support. The 2,000-pound bronze statue, sculpted by Florence artist Alex Palkovich, was erected on the banks of the Lynches River at Venters' Landing off Highway 41/51. The SCSSAR was represented at the event by President Carroll Crowther, Senior Vice President Dan Woodruff, National Trustee Doug Doster and Compatriots Wayne Cousar and Frank Brown. The SCSSAR wreath as well as wreaths from the Battle of Eutaw Springs, Col. Robert Anderson and Gov. Paul Hamilton chapters were presented during the dedication ceremony. Sherilyn Woodruff of the SCSDAR presented the Gen. Nathanael Greene DAR Chapter wreath. Crowther and Marilyn Altman, SCSDAR Past State Regent, brought greetings and gave comments. On May 25, the South Carolina Society hosted a commemoration on the 233rd anniversary of Buford's Massacre at the battle site in Lancaster County, S.C. SAR members from South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia attended. On May 29, 1780, Col. Abraham Buford commanded some 350 Virginians who fell to attack by Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton.
