OHIO SOCIETY The combined Ohio Society Color Guard with members from the Western Reserve Society, Northeastern Ohio and Cincinnati chapters posted colors at the May 16 Centennial Celebration of the DAR Moses Cleaveland Chapter at the Union Club in Cleveland, Ohio. The color guard included Commander John H. Franklin (WRS), Lee MacBride (WRS), Paul Wilke (CC), Frank Moore (WRS), Troy Bailey (NEO), Valerie Wilke (Cincinnati DAR Regent) and Anna Insprucker (C.A.R.). Western Reserve Society members attending included President David B. Foster, 1st Vice President Duncan E. McVean, 2nd Vice President Richard C.O. Rezie, Treasurer J. Atlee Horner and Genealogist Richard L. Fetzer. Moses Cleaveland Regent Jennie Jones was mistress of ceremonies. After the posting of the colors, everyone was invited to take part in a champagne toast in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Moses Cleaveland DAR Chapter. Jones presented Paul Wilke of the Cincinnati SAR Chapter an original 49-star United States flag that been in her family. Wilke was most gracious in his acceptance of the flag and will add it to the Miller Flag Collection. The speaker for the program was author George Daughan, who presented "1812: The Navy's War." Jones made closing remarks and the color guard retired the colors. Right, James McLaughlin, chairman of the Honor Flight Board, received the Silver Good Citizenship Medal, and his daugh- George Ruch, John Franklin, Larry Perkins and Steve Kelley are the first Ohio Society members to be awarded the Silver Roger Sherman Medal for faithful and continuous service. Certificates were presented at the OHSSAR annual meeting in April in Dublin, Ohio. SUMMER 2013 ter, Christine Dunn, received the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal from OHSSAR President Steve Kelley during the OHSSAR Annual Meeting in Dublin, Ohio. Honor Flight has helped more than 100,000 veterans from World War II and Korea fly to Washington, D.C., to see their national memorials and to remember their comrades. Mark, Phyllis, David and Dana McDaniel made SAR membership a family affair. Dana's daughters had joined C.A.R. years ago on their grandmother Phyllis' DAR application recognizing Patriot James Chasteen of Virginia. All three sons joined SAR this year at the OHSSAR Annual Meeting in Dublin, Ohio, in April—an example of the SAR, DAR and C.A.R. working together. Western Reserve Society On Sunday, May 5, the Archibald Willard Color Guard of the Western Reserve Society participated in the rededication of the 1905 monument to Gen. Thaddeus Kosciuszko, an American hero of the Revolutionary War and a hero of Poland. The ceremony also celebrated Polish Constitution Day. A surprise to all was the color guard, in period dress. Commander John Franklin led color guard members Stan Thomas, Troy Bailey (Northeastern Ohio Chapter), David Foster, Greg Arnold, Frank Moore and Brian Johnson (Northeastern Ohio Chapter). The monument stands on a small hill above the Wade Park Lagoon and to the west of The Cleveland Museum of Art. Hundreds gathered for the official rededication of the monument. The color guard led the procession onto the podium for the posting of the colors. As master of ceremonies, Ben Stefanski Jr. introduced the dignitaries after the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the American and Polish national anthems. From the city of Cleveland were Housing Director Edward W. Rybka, Councilman Tony Brancatelli and Judge Raymond Pianka, Children of the Polish National Alliance, Gorale and the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. Piast groups per41
