The 123rd Annual National Congress President General Initiatives for 2013-14 I.a. PresIdent General's ChallenGe (OPPOrtunIty fOr state sOCIetIes) From July 11, 2013 through July 15, 2014, if a state society donates $400 to The Center for Advancing America's Heritage, I shall donate an additional $100 to the Center in that state society's name so that the state society is credited with a $500 donation. From July 11, 2013 through July 15, 2014, if a state society donates $750 to The Center for Advancing America's Heritage, I shall donate an additional $250 to the Center in that state society's name so that the state society is credited with a $1,000 donation. The $100 matching donation applies to donations by state societies in any amount from $400 to $749. The $250 matching donation is available for state societies that donate $750 or more. Every state society is encouraged to donate as much as it can. For the purposes of this PG Initiative, foreign societies (France, Spain, Germany, Mexico, etc.) shall be treated as state societies. For the purposes of the Americanism Contest, state society contributions plus my matching donation may be recorded in Tab 16 on the Americanism Score Sheet. I.b. PresIdent General's ChallenGe If we raise $1 million for The Center for Advancing America's Heritage by or during the 2014 NSSAR Congress, I shall shave my head bald. I will hire a barber and have my head shaved, right on the floor of the Congress, if possible. 14 This must be new money, and it must be paid by or during the 2014 NSSAR Congress. This does not include payments on outstanding pledges made before the 2013 NSSAR Congress. If a pledge is made at or after the 2013 NSSAR Congress, only that portion of the pledge paid by or during the 2014 NSSAR Congress counts toward the $1 million goal. This new money may include the personal contributions of compatriots, state societies and chapters, as well as those of people who are not members of the SAR. This new money may include grants or contributions from foundations, businesses and other corporations. This new money also may also include any funds raised pursuant to the President General's Challenge set forth in I.a above. NSSAR Director of Finance Craig Johnson is the SAR point of contact on this PG Initiative and will keep track of donations made by state societies and chapters. If you have any questions about this PG Initiative, please contact Craig at cjohnson@sar.org. II.a. PartnerInG wIth the MOunt VernOn ladIes' assOCIatIOn GeOrGe washInGtOn POrtraIt PrOGraM (OPPOrtunIty fOr state sOCIetIes and ChaPters) Currently, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association (MVLA) offers a beautifully framed replica of Rembrandt Peale's Porthole Portrait of George Washington. Although the MVLA makes this portrait available for free to elementary, middle and high schools, Mount Vernon also is asking for contributions to defray its costs associated with this program. A donor contribution form on the MVLA's website allows donors to contribute a minimum of $275 to underwrite the cost of one of these portraits of George Washington. Mount Vernon has graciously discounted the minimum donation to $250 for SAR state societies and chapters that participate in this President General Initiative. From July 11, 2013 through July 15, 2014, every state society or chapter that coordinates with an elementary school, a middle school or a high school to have one of these beautiful portraits of George Washington hung in the school, as part of the MVLA's George Washington Portrait Program will be awarded an NSSAR streamer. If a state society or chapter arranges to have a portrait hung in more than one school, it will be awarded a star to be affixed to the streamer for every school beyond the first. For each portrait given to a school by Mount Vernon, an SAR state society or chapter must: Coordinate with the principal of the school; and remit a contribution of $250 by or in the state SAR MAGAZINE
