WINTER 2014-2015 33 Tulsa Chapter Oklahoma Society Chaplain and Tulsa Chapter Compatriot Dr. Stuart Denslow, a Korean War veteran, saluted the flag after posting the colors during the Frontier District, Oklahoma Society DAR Vietnam War Commemoration at Enid Woodring Regional Airport on Nov. 6, 2014. Denslow was a one-man color guard for the event, where 50 Vietnam veterans were honored. Afterward, he was greatly surprised to be honored as well for his military service. PENNSYLVANIA SOCIETY Members of the Pittsburgh and General Anthony Wayne chapters, along with representatives from JROTC, the VFW and the American Legion, are shown at a grave-marker dedication, below, at Grove Cemetery in New Brighton, Pa. Constitution Debutante Ball The Pennsylvania Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Society Sons of the American Revolution and Pennsylvania Society Children of the American Revolution, launched the first annual Constitution Debutante Ball at the Valley Forge Double Tree Hilton Hotel on Sept. 13, 2014. This inaugural event followed the 45th Annual DAR/SAR Constitution Day Luncheon, also at the Hilton, commemorating the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the U.S. Constitution. To continue the patriotic work of these organizations, the Constitution Debutante Ball was conceived to encourage the next generation of citizens—our nation's future. The six C.A.R. debutantes, young ladies making their entry into society, were escorted by six young men. Presented was Pennsylvania C.A.R. State President Julia Lynn Teti of Pittsburgh, escorted by Kyle Laurence Popielarski (Honorary State C.A.R. President) of Medford, N.J. Pennsylvania C.A.R. Honorary State President Kathryn Christine Turner of Reading, Pa., was escorted by Kyle Lawrence Rankin of Arlington, Texas. Pennsylvania C.A.R. 1st Vice President Jessica Lynn Dodson of Milton, Pa., was escorted by Maximillian Brueckman Hain of Radnor, Pa. The other debutantes presented were Abigail Joy Klein of Fairfax, Va., escorted by Daniel Francis Klein, also of Fairfax; Sarah Jessie Mattox of Linwood, Pa., escorted by Michael Dalton Bucher of Sunbury, Pa.; and Virginia Ross Gresh of Bryn Mawr, Pa., escorted by Connor Liam Jackson of Derry, N.H. These young women were presented cotillion-style— carrying on the tradition of debutante balls in America that first made their appearance in Philadelphia in 1748. The master of ceremonies was Honorary National President National Society C.A.R. Robert A. Fritsch, a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and a member of both the SAR and the Sons of the Revolution. He introduced Billie Spence, C.A.R. senior national president, who was escorted by Hans E. Jackson, C.A.R. honorary senior national president. About 100 DAR, SAR and C.A.R. members, and family and friends of the debutantes enjoyed the music of Main Line Affair, whose selections spanned several generations of favorites. Through the vision and cooperative efforts of DAR State Regent Roberta P. McMullen, SAR State President Eric H. Troutman and C.A.R. Senior State President Nancy Bainter Popielarski, this cotillion became a wonderful reality and set the stage for future Pennsylvania Constitution Balls. Young ladies from area C.A.R. societies, ages 18-22, are invited to consider debuting at the Sept. 12, 2015, Constitution Debutante Ball, which will be held in the same location.
