Rubenstein is co-founder of Carlyle Group, a Washington-based global private equity firm. His passion for U.S. history is evinced by numerous history-themed donations. Making the presentation of the SAR Gold Medal in Rubenstein's office were President General Joe Dooley (2013-2014), DCSSAR President Robert D. Pollock and DCSSAR Past President Jack London. FLORIDA SOCIETY Clearwater Chapter Florida Society President Steve Williams recently inducted the 2015 Board of Governors for the Clearwater Chapter. The board includes James Phillips, president; Bob Cundiff, 1st vice president; Gary Coil, 2nd vice president; Dan Hooper, secretary/treasurer; Parks Honeywell, registrar/ genealogist; Bill Bosbyshell, chaplain; Nelson Jantzen, sergeant-at-arms; and governors George Pratt, Russell Pebworth and Pat Niemman. The Clearwater Chapter serves Seminole, Pinellas Park, Clearwater, Safety Harbor, Dunedin, Oldsmar, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs and the remainder of northern Pinellas and Pasco counties. Saramana Chapter During its October meeting, the chapter honored six of its 16 World War II members—Clarence "Chuck" Barrett, Ferrell Benefiel, Eugene Bradley, Burton Corbus Jr., John A. "Jack" Williams, Harry Cruncleton Jr. and Past President Richard Quigley. Also during the meeting, the chapter held its largest single induction ceremony, as 14 new compatriots joined the chapter. ILLINOIS SOCIETY On Sept. 28, 2014, ILSSAR President and Captain Zelly Moss Chapter member Tom Ashby and Springfield Chapter members Dick Chamblin and Toby Chamberlain traveled to Paris, Ky., to attend the DAR Jemima Johnson Chapter grave marking of Revolutionary War Patriot Esther Stilly Kennedy. Kennedy furnished beef to the Continental Army during the war and is Chamberlain's Patriot ancestor. Her husband, John Kennedy, fought at the Battle of Guilford Court House, where he was taken prisoner and died four months later of starvation on a British prison ship. General Joseph Bartholomew Chapter The General Joseph Bartholomew Chapter held its Constitution Week meeting Sept. 18, 2014, at Calvary United Methodist Church. This meeting traditionally has been held jointly with the Letitia Green Stevenson DAR Chapter. However, this year, there was a scheduling conflict. The meeting was hosted by President Gordon Bidner, with 60 attendees, including members and their wives, McLean County Board Member Paul Segebiano and Bloomington (Ill.) Mayor Tari Renner. Bidner presented Bill Hammitt, chapter registrar, with the NSSAR Liberty Certificate and Oak Leaf Cluster in recognition of outstanding service in recruiting new members and retaining current members. The chapter presented 2014 General Joseph Bartholomew SAR Public Service Awards to outstanding members of our local first responders. Presentations were made by Hammitt, who also is chairman of the Flag, Law Enforcement, Fire Safety and EMS Committee. The speaker was Dr. Thomas Eimermann, emeritus pro- fessor of political science at Illinois State University, who spoke on "The U.S. Constitution: Can it handle the chal- lenges of 21st century politics?" The problems of forming a government for a new nation, the United States of America, were discussed, including the development and adoption of the Constitution and some of the challenges of interpreting a now-237-year-old Constitution with an expanding nation and changes in technology and morality. Fox Valley Chapter The Fox Valley Chapter participated in Revolutionary War Days Sept. 13, 2014, at Cantigny Park in Winfield, Ill. The chapter sets up a recruitment table each year at this event to answer questions and recruit new members. General George Rogers Clark Chapter Revolutionary War battle flags lining both sides of the driveway of the Nix/Judy Pioneer Cemetery in Glen Carbon were blowing in the breeze as the General George Rogers Clark Chapter dedicated a large, cast-aluminum plaque at the cemetery entrance on Sept. 21, 2014.
