WINTER 2013-14 37 OKLAHOMA SOCIETY The Oklahoma societies of the DAR and SAR participated in Tulsa's 95th annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11, 2013. Hosted by the American Legion Post No. 1 of Tulsa and the VFW Post 577, the parade is the fifth-largest in the country. This year's parade theme was "Honor, Pride and Sacrifice." Preceding the DAR and SAR 41-foot float was a baby blue vintage Cadillac convertible lent by Leake Auto Auction and driven by DAR member and owner Nancy Leake Sevenoaks. Riding in the car were Oklahoma State DAR Regent Pat Miller McFall and Oklahoma State SAR Past President and current State Chaplain Dr. Stuart Denslow. Riding on the float were numerous members of the DAR, SAR and the Tulsa SAR Chapter Color Guard. On Sept. 14, 2013, Oklahoma DAR member Miriam Gooding joined her family for their induction into the Tulsa Chapter, SAR. Recruited by Gooding were her two sons, Tony Leon Harris and Tommy Lee Harris Jr.; her brother, John Insley Blair IV; her grandson, Tommy Lee Harris IV; and her nephew, John Insley Blair V. The South Central District 2013 annual conference was held on Aug. 23-24, 2013, at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Tulsa. Nearly 90 SAR members and wives attended the event. The Friday afternoon program included a Candidates' Forum followed by a festive social hour with famed Tulsa pianist Barron Ryan at the keyboards. During the banquet dinner program, VPG Stephen Baldwin paid tribute to the late OKSSAR Compatriot Peter Keltch, who passed away in June. OKSSAR President Darrell Hefley welcomed keynote speaker President General Joseph Dooley and everyone else to Tulsa. A special recognition and welcome were given to Billie Brock, senior national organizing secretary of the National Society Children of the American Revolution and Cilla Leed Tomme, chaplain for the NSSAR Ladies Auxiliary. During Saturday's business session, immediate Past VPG Peter Grassl received a medal and plaque for his outstand- ing service to the South Central District.
