If you have visited KC previously, we can guarantee you will find new discoveries on this voyage. The two tour options for Wednesday include the Art and Historic Independence (the Truman Legacies) tours. On the Art Tour, you will visit both the famed Nelson-Atkins and the Kemper Contemporary Museum. Lunch at the museums is included. This tour is a must for art lovers. The Historic Independence option features a visit to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, a stop at the Truman home to learn about Harry and his wife, Bess, and a tour of the Frontier Trails Museum, where you will discover the Santa Fe, Oregon and California trails, which all originated from the area. A drive by the new Genealogy Building (so you will know how to return) and lunch also are included. Trinity Cathedral. This historical and beautiful cathedral is home to the Episcopal Diocese of Western Missouri and is a cornerstone for religious worship in the downtown area. Transportation will be available for those with limited mobility. Hang Around on Thursday There is so much western frontier history in the area that another tour has been arranged for the Thursday following the Congress. A tour of historic Fort Leavenworth, established in 1827, will include the Command and General Staff College's Lewis & Clark Center with a photo op in front the Revolutionary War stained glass window, a visit to the Frontier Army Museum, and a narrated tour of the fort by a fellow compatriot who has written several books about the historical element of the fort. Lunch will be in the newly remodeled Frontier Club, formerly the Officer's Club. First Lady's Luncheon Ladies will travel down the street to one of Kansas City's most unique destinations—the Webster House. It's a distinctive dining and shopping experience located inside a restored Romanesque-style school. First Lady Janet Leishman has selected a venue noted for its award-winning restaurant with spectacular views of the city. Come Early, Stay Late You can't see it all during Congress, but you can sure try. We're encouraging compatriots and guests to come early and stay late—as much as three days at the very attractive rate. There is so much to see and do in Kansas City—the city of fountains. Check out the list on the Congress Web page. The 123rd Congress in Kansas City will be a great Midwest experience with historical sights, shopping, art, barbecue, jazz and great restaurants.
