ALABAMA SOCIETY Little River Chapter The Little River Chapter in Fort Payne, Ala., presented framed reproductions of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to each of the 16 public schools in DeKalb County, Ala., in conjunction with their observation of Veterans Day. Chapter President Charles E. Green stated, "It is appropriate that the SAR makes this presentation during the period when we honor, recognize and remember all those who have served in the military of our country—who served to preserve the freedoms established by these documents. View them, read them, breathe them and remember what they represent." Tennessee Valley Chapter On Oct. 7, 2012, the Tennessee Valley Chapter Color Guard, ALSSAR, participated in a grave-marking ceremony near Hazel Green in Madison County, Ala., sponsored by the Alabama Brigade of the Society of Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge. The patriot whose grave was marked was John Amonnet, who served as a private with the 10th Virginia Regiment at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-78. Dr. Marion Lane, commander in chief of the Society of Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge, attended the ceremony and participated in the dedication of the grave marker. TNSSAR President Charles Dammann also attended the grave marking and brought greetings from TNSSAR. Following the ceremony, a reception was held in Huntsville, Ala., at the home of ALSSAR former President Dr. David Billings and his wife, Nancy, who also is a member of the Society of 26 Pictured, from left, Tennessee Valley Color Guard members Bob Baccus and Ken Carpenter, DVF Commander in Chief Dr. Marion Lane and Color Guard members Jim Maples, Bob Anderson, Otha "Skeet" Vaughn and Harrell Phillips. ALABAMA-TENNESSEE SOCIETIES On Oct. 28, 2012, the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the ALSSAR and the Joseph Greer Chapter of the TNSSAR held a joint gravemarking ceremony at the Elliot Cemetery near Ardmore in Giles County, Tenn. The patriot whose grave was marked was Thomas Holland, who served as a private with the South Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. Holland is an ancestor of Tennessee Valley Chapter member Jim King. TNSSAR President Charles Dammann, at left, below, attended and brought greetings from the Tennessee Society.
