Colonial Ancestors
If you are an American and a direct
male descendant of someone who
rendered civil or military service in
one of the 13 American colonies before July 4, 1776, consider joining the
Howard was called the Hero of Cowpens for his armed offensive when the
tides were against the Americans. He was honored in the Maryland State song
with the words "Howard's warlike thrust." Regent Julia Williams of the DAR
deserves much praise for leading this memorial event to honor an American
Revolutionary hero. Members of the Maryland Color Guard fired muskets in
Howard's honor.
John Eager Howard Chapter
A warm summer day in Pittsburgh was the setting for a memorial to
Commodore Joshua Barney, hero of the American Revolution and War of 1812.
Officers and color guard members of the MDSSAR, Commodore Joshua Barney
Chapter-John Eager Howard DAR and John Eager Howard Chapter SAR, and
Thomas Johnson Chapter C.A.R. traveled 250 miles to Pittsburgh to honor the
memory of Barney and marked his grave with new markers, below. The audience
included descendants and representatives from the Pittsburgh newspapers,
which featured articles about the event.
