The SAR Recessional was led by Wilson. Following the retirement of the colors by the Combined NCSSAR Color Guard, Rev. Jones gave the benediction. OHIO SOCIETY The Ohio Society held its Summer Board of Managers' meeting July 28, 2012. In conjunction with the meeting, a Commemoration and Memorial Service was held at Fort Lauren at the tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier. Fort Lauren is Ohio's only Revolutionary War fort. President General Stephen A. Leishman and other national officers attended, along with many other compatriots from the area and color guard members from various chapters and societies. Many wreaths were placed on the tomb in a moving ceremony. The PG laid a wreath, as did President William J. McKim for the PASSAR and Secretary Gary W. Timmons for the PASSAR George Washington Chapter. OKLAHOMA SOCIETY Norman Chapter Marilyn Janosko, at right, past regent of the Lawton Chapter NSDAR presented the Wreaths Across America program on Dec. 15 at the Memorial Wall of the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Lawton, Okla. NSSAR Minuteman Franklin J. Appl, center, a member of the Norman Chapter, participated in the ceremony, WINTER 2012-13 presented a proclamation from President General Stephen Leishman and placed a wreath in honor of the U.S. Navy. Retired Army Col. Ted Janosko, left, placed wreaths during the ceremony in honor of the U.S. Army and Air Force. Oklahoma City Chapter Two Oklahoma City Chapter SAR members were recognized by the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge on Oct. 11, 2012, at the Foundation's Awards Ceremony and Banquet, held at the Quail Creek Golf and Country Club of Oklahoma City. George David Thompson and William Ray "Bill" Melton were awarded Certificates of Merit in the National Awards Program, Adult Community Category, for their contributions to our nation, the State of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City SAR Chapter celebrated Veterans From left, Chapter President Martin Reynolds, Day by recognizing Poolaw's wife, Marti, and Poolaw. a Vietnam veteran at its Nov. 12, 2012, meeting at the Oklahoma Station BBQ. Chapter President Martin Reynolds honored retired 27-year U.S. Marine veteran Capt. Robert W. Poolaw by awarding him the SAR Wounded Warrior Project Coin and War Service Medal with Vietnam Bar, Purple Heart Pin and Certificate. Poolaw served two tours in Vietnam and was wounded twice. He received the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" and two Purple Hearts for his service in Vietnam. Poolaw, a member of the Kiowa Tribe, was also awarded a blanket by Stewart Cady, president of the Native American Marine Veterans Association, a Kiowa organization. The blanket honors the warrior spirit of Poolaw, Melton said. 37
