WASHINGTON SOCIETY Junior SAR member Andrew Pecunia, 8, played his flute in regimental uniform. He and his sister Ainsley, 4, from Yorktown, N.Y., were with their grand- mother, Muriel Parrish, of University Place, celebrating and supporting the troops from Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. Muriel Parrish is the regent for the Elizabeth Forey Chapter, WSSDAR. The Pecunia kids' mom, Anne, grew up in Washington and the family was visiting on vacation. WEST VIRGINIA SOCIETY Daniel Boone Chapter Scott Johnson, with his daughter Madeline, and Steve Hart, both of the Daniel Boone Chapter, presented a program at the Fort Hill Child Development Center on July 3, in Charleston, W.Va., on how children would have lived in 1776. The students thanked the Johnsons and Hart, a descendant of Declaration of Independence signer John Hart, with three hearty "Huzzahs!" WYOMING SOCIETY In a formal ceremony, Wyoming Gov. Matthew H. Mead proclaimed July 2 as Sons of the American Revolution Day for the state of Wyoming, which commemorated the SAR's 125th anniversary and the Wyoming Society's 106th anniversary. The proclamation bears the Wyoming State seal and the seal of the governor of Wyoming. The following individuals attended the proclamation ceremony in the governor's formal office: Vice President General William Teter, who represented the Intermountain District as well as State Society registrar; past DAR State Regent Darla Teter, who represented our close partnering with the State DAR; retired U.S. Air Force Col. David Thompson, State Society president; Edward Thompson Jr., a World War II veteran and participant in the 2011 Wyoming WWII Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., who represented the long-term members of the State Society; and retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Patricia Thompson, who represented the importance of spouse support to the SAR. The event capped several weeks of coordination the WYSSAR initiated with the governor's office. The WYSSAR provided background information about the national and state societies, which was discussed with the governor during the ceremony. Gov. Mead acknowledged the contributions of the WYSSAR in promoting education, historic preservation and patriotism though volunteer service; for recognizing high school students for good citizenship; and for supporting high school and college ROTC programs and Eagle Scout programs. The governor's proclamation, the first in the Wyoming Society's history, is now a matter of official record for the State of Wyoming. For their assistance in coordinating the event, WYSSAR President Thompson presented NSSAR Certificates of Appreciation to staff members of the governor's office.
