FALL 2014 27 CONNECTICUT SOCIETY Two color guard members from the Gov. Oliver Wolcott Sr. Branch participated in the Let Freedom Ring National Bell Ringing Ceremony in Litchfield, Conn., on Independence Day. Chris Elliott and Ken Buckbee, dressed in color guard attire, represented the American Revolution facet of the ceremony. Compatriot Elliott held his musket, and Compatriot Buckbee held the regiment flag (Gen. Wolcott's Sixth Militia Brigade Color Guard) as the First Litchfield Artillery Regiment performed the ceremony and fired a cannon salute for each of the original 13 states in the order in which they ratified the United States Constitution. At 2 p.m., just as the smoke cleared from the last cannon salute, the bells of four churches that surround Litchfield Green began to ring. Buckbee had hoped to be able to enhance the ceremony with a new idea he has been working on. He asked the SAR state societies of each of the original 13 states to make a monetary donation that would cover the cost of their respective state flag, a flagpole and a flagpole ornament. Buckbee would like each of those state societies to have a color guard member present each flag of the original 13 states during this NSSAR Silver Color Guard Medal event every year. There has been great interest in supporting this idea but, unfortunately, there was not enough time to make it happen this year. FLORIDA SOCIETY Clearwater Chapter Eagle Scout Taylor Ray Wilson, son of Susan Wilson of Dunedin, was presented with an Eagle Scout Certificate of Recognition from the Clearwater Chapter for outstanding leadership and citizenship as demonstrated by his attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout. Compatriot Art Hays presented the certificate at Taylor's Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony on Sept. 13 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Largo. Taylor joined Boy Scout Troop 468 in 2010. He earned 33 merit badges and participated in many troop camping trips and other outdoor activities. He has camped out more than 100 days. His scouting adventure included an 86-mile hiking excursion at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and a 2013 trip to the Boy Scout National Jamboree in West Virginia. Taylor is a descendant of Sgt. Maj. Horton Hash of Virginia, who served with the Continental Army during the Revo- lutionary War.
