mouth of the Ohio River. Carmack was discharged on July 10, 1780. He was allowed pension on his application dated Oct. 15, 1832, when he was a resident of Lee County. He died Sept. 24, 1851. WASHINGTON SOCIETY Maj. Tom Burch, past president of the Virginia Society, above left, presented an award to humanitarian H. Ross Perot at a dinner given in his honor by the National Vietnam Veterans Foundation on March 23 in Washington, D.C. Burch is the founder of the foundation and serves as its president. Perot is a recent recipient of the SAR Gold Good Citizenship Medal. Among the 20 Vietnam veterans on hand for the presentation was past Historian General Bob Bowen. Col. James Wood II Chapter The Col. James Wood II Chapter held its annual meeting for the installation of officers. They are Rev. Larry Johnson, president; Don Dusenbury, first vice president; and Tom Golding, second vice president. During the past year, the chapter achieved some notable goals under the leadership of past President Steve Kerchner, increasing membership in the 5-year-old chapter from 20 to 97 members—23 of whom were added in 2012. The chapter accumulated 7,500 points for the Stark Award. This year the chapter will be partnering with the Virginia DAR, St. John's Lutheran Church in Frederick County, Va., and the Society of the War of 1812 in marking patriot graves in three cemeteries. VASDAR; the Chickamauga Chapter, TNSDAR; and Carmack's descendants. Born Jan. 5, 1761, William Carmack was a pioneer in Lee County, Va. While living in Washington County, Va., he enlisted in January 1779, and served as a private in Capt. James Shelby's company, Col. John Montgomery's Virginia Regiment. He and his company marched to the Long Island of Holston, and then destroyed Chickamauga towns before marching to the Kaskaskia River in Illinois, where they joined Col. George Rogers Clark and marched to Vincennes on the Wabash River. They remained there until June 1780, and then marched to the Iron Banks of the The 104th Annual Washington's Birthday Memorial Celebration was held on Feb. 18 at the George Washington statue at the University of Washington. The event was hosted by Greater Seattle DAR Regent's Council (GSDARRC) and was supported by members of the WASSAR and WAC.A.R. Societies. Several chapters of these and other patriotic societies laid wreaths at the statue's base, below, in homage to the great general and first president. The statue was donated and unveiled by GSDARRC on Flag Day, June 14, 1909. A memorial service with 70 in attendance was conducted at the nearby LDS Institute with attorney Rod Fleck of Forks, Wash., speaking on "Winter of Suffering: George Washington's Valley Forge." A presentation of colors and a wreath-laying ceremony followed at the stately, dignified statue. Martin's Station Chapter Members of the Martin's Station Chapter VASSAR hosted a grave-marking ceremony Nov. 3, 2012, to honor Revolutionary War soldier William Carmack. Also attending were the Gen.
