Looking Ahead Dear Fellow Compatriots, The future of our National Society continues to look bright. New and supplemental applications continue to be received at headquarters in record numbers. Reinstatements of members dropped for nonpayment of dues are received each day. Renovation work on our new headquarters building continues with Phase IIB. When the project is completed in about a year, we will be able to move into the building. For the first time in more than three years we'll have all our employees together. The Fourth Street property remains on the market for either a buyer or for a longterm lease. Once construction is completed, we will continue to be in a fundraising mode as we build up a maintenance fund for our buildings and an endowment to support our education programs and outreach. The fourth SAR Annual Conference on the American Revolution will be held in St. Louis, the "gateway to the West," on June 21-23. This year's topic is "Revolutionary Prophecies: The Founders on the Future." With the Revolutionary War over and a new constitution in place, people began questioning the future of our new nation. These questions and more will be addressed by scholars at this conference. More information and a registration form are available on the SAR website, sar.org, under the heading of Important Information. Don't miss the opportunity to meet, listen to and ask questions of the presenters. The 123rd Annual Congress in Kansas City is fast approaching. For more information and a Congress registration form, look on the top of the main page of the SAR website. Beginning with this Congress, you can now use a credit card for payment when completing your registration form. Our host is the Missouri Society. The host reception will be at the National World War I Museum. The displays are sure to captivate attendees as they tell the story of the "war to end all wars," starting with the entryway, where you can look down through the glass floor and view the poppies in the fields each representing 1,000 combat fatalities. I would like to say that it has been a pleasure and an honor to serve as your President General. Janet and I have met many wonderful people on our trips across our country. Thank you all for your warm and gracious hospitality. But just as we were taught when running a race or swimming, you're not done until you cross the finish line or touch the wall. There is much work to be completed in the next two months. We still have some very important business to take care of at Congress. ÒIt has been a pleasure and an honor to serve as your President General. Janet and I have met many wonderful people on our trips across our country.Ó SPRING 2013 Fraternally, Stephen A. Leishman President General 3
