NORTH CAROLINA SOCIETY The Halifax Resolves Chapter presented the Society Fire Safety Commendation Medal to three members of the Gaston, N.C., Fire Department. Lt. Eddie Porter III and firefighters Pete King and Dylan Clark received the medals "in recognition of their outstanding contributions to protect human life and property caused by fire." They rescued a mother and two children from a burning house on Gray Street in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. The firefighters were driving through Roanoke From left, Lt. OKLAHOMA SOCIETY Oklahoma City Chapter The Oklahoma City Chapter recognized a Vietnam War veteran at its monthly meeting Feb. 11 at Oklahoma Station BBQ. Retired U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Thomas C. Roman was awarded the SAR War Service Medal with Vietnam Bar and Certificate for heroic action March 6, 1968, near Kontum, South Vietnam, said chapter spokesman and Awards Chairman William R. "Bill" Melton. When his convoy was under intense enemy rocket and automatic rifle fire, Roman, then a sergeant, left his vehicle and concentrated his rifle fire on the rocket position, silencing it. When a North Vietnamese soldier was sighted, Roman reacted quickly, firing on the enemy soldier and killing him. Because of his bravery, the enemy attack was unsuccessful. "Bill" Melton. Photo was taken by chapter member Ray Meritt. SPRING 2013 PP Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Everett Bagley Jr. was recognized by the Oklahoma City Chapter at its Jan. 14 meeting. The chapter awarded Bagley the SAR Wounded Warrior Project Coin/Medallion with Certificate and the SAR War Service Medal with Vietnam Bar, Purple Heart Pin and Certificate. In 1966, while serving as a medic in the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment in South Vietnam, he left his position of safety, and while dragging a wounded soldier to safety, was wounded by gunfire, said Chapter Awards Chairman and spokesman William R. PP Wesley Hudson and Savannah Thompson, members of the John Bray Society of the Oklahoma Society of the C.A.R., made a presentation to the Oklahoma City Chapter of the SAR on the Battles of Saratoga. These battles, which took place Sept. 19, 1777, at Freeman's Farm and Oct. 7, 1777, at Bemis, conclusively determined the fate of British Gen. John "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne and led to his to surrender. After Burgoyne's surrender, France entered the Revolutionary War, making it a global conflict. OREGON SOCIETY The Oregon State Society, Children of the American Revolution (OSSC.A.R.) donated $2,100 for the American Revolutionary War Memorial planned for Beaverton, Ore., during the 78th Annual Oregon State C.A.R. Conference March 26 in Seaside, Ore. C.A.R. State President Jennifer Devin presented a check to Eugene Melvin, president of the ORSSAR. The money was raised as her state project during her 2012-13 tenure as president. Of the total donation, $1,600 represents the second half of the money needed to purchase one of 13 columnar benches planned for the War Memorial. This amount will go toward construction of the bench in the name of the Commonwealth of Virginia, one of the original 13 colonies. The remaining $500 will buy engraved bricks for the memorial. 33
