United States Sen. and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was inducted into the National Society Sons of the American Revolution during the Spring Leadership Meeting in Louisville. He was joined by his wife, Elaine Lan Chao, who served as the 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009. McConnell has been the minority leader of the Senate since Jan. 3, 2007. First elected to that position in 2006, he is the 15th Senate Republican Leader and the second Kentuckian to lead his party in the Senate. The first, Alben Barkley, led the Democrats from 1937 to 1949. McConnell is also the longest-serving U.S. senator in Kentucky history. Currently, he is the ninth most-senior senator, as well as the fourth most senior Republican member. New Library System A t the heart of any library is its system, and the SAR Library has signed a contract that brings it into the digital age. "With this purchase, we will now have an integrated library solution," said Librarian General Michael C. Wells during the Spring Leadership Meeting. "As we transitioned from the old library to the new library building, it became apparent that we had indeed outgrown our current library system." According to Wells, the new system will allow SAR to move forward with several initiatives, including enhanced catalog capabilities, inventory control integration and the ability to enter into the e-book arena. It also includes a reporting package to allow the SAR Library to better manage its day-to-day operations. "We are excited to have this opportunity to grow with our new library system," Wells said.
