He was decorated with the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge and European Theater of Operations Ribbon with three battle stars. His wife, Sadie Shelley Riley Moore, died in September 2014 at age 88. He is survived by daughters Shelley Moore Capito and Lucy Moore Durbin, and son Arch Alfred Moore III. Funeral arrangements took place in both Charleston and Moundsville, W.Va., Jan. 16-17, with interment in Moundsville. After the ceremonies for Moore, Hart and Kane spent the rest of the day performing genealogical research in the West Virginia Archives and History Library, which is located in the West Virginia Culture Center. The library houses an enormous collection of books, exhibits, microfilm and other records. PPP Two West Virginia Society compatriots were honored to present wreathes at the 272nd anniversary of the birth of Thomas Jefferson on April 13 at Monticello in Virginia. D. Wayne Harvey, below left, is the WVSSAR historian, and Richard D. Brockway, right, is the National Society Historian General. Both are members of the Greenbrier Valley Chapter and presented wreaths at the ceremony on behalf of the WVSSAR and the NSSAR. Following the ceremony and celebration, a huge birthday cake was served to all attendees. Presenting the colors at the event, which was hosted by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, was the SAR Thomas Jefferson Chapter Color Guard. Fort Henry Chapter The Fort Henry Chapter was chartered on April 26, 2014, and re-established at an organizational dinner held Oct. 23, 2014, at Wilson Lodge of the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center of Wheeling, W.Va. Among the 60 guests were President General Lindsey Cook Brock and Billie Brock. The guest speaker was David T. Javersak, Ph.D., dean emeritus, School of Liberal Arts and professor of history, West Liberty University. WVSSAR President Steve Hart presented the charter for the re-established Fort Henry Chapter to Chapter President James "Jay" Frey. Also attending were SAR Singers Choirmaster Richard Brockway and Norma Brockway, WVSSAR Past President Ira Cook and Lillian Cook, WVSSAR Past President Bob Fish, OHSSAR Past President George Ruch, WVSSAR Secretary-Treasurer Joe Khare and his wife Cheryl Brown, and WVSSAR First VP Bill Lester and Ann Lester. Hart continues to help establish new chapters in West Virginia, with a new SAR Chapter soon to be established at Elkins, W.Va., and other chapters in the early discussion and planning stages. Gov.
