SPRING 2014 9 Y ouÕre in the Òneighborhood!Ó Why not spend an extra day in the area visiting AmericaÕs largest privately owned home: the Biltmore Estate? A post-Congress tour on Thursday, July 24, will travel up the road from Greenville to the world-famous Biltmore Estate. Here is your chance to experience the 8,000-acre estate nestled in the mountains of Asheville, N.C. The luxurious family home of George and Edith Vanderbilt is a marvel of elegance and charm, as magnificent today as it was more than a century ago. Your self-guided house visit spans three floors and the basement. YouÕll see displays of vintage clothing, accessories, art, furniture and more that tell stories and illustrate the lives of the Vanderbilt family, their guests and their employees. Get a close look at original art by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and John Singer Sargent. Marvel at magnificent 16th century tapestries, a library with 10,000 volumes, a banquet hall with a 70-foot ceiling, 65 fireplaces, an indoor pool and a bowling alley. Almost all of the priceless objects youÕll see throughout the house are from the VanderbiltsÕ original collection. Your self-guided visit is included in estate admission. An in-depth audio guide and guided specialty tours also are available at additional cost. The audio captures the feeling of being guided through BiltmoreÕs grand rooms by curators and hosts. On this 90-minute tour, youÕll learn about the Vanderbilts, their guests and their servants, in addition to the surrounding architecture, design and artwork. Following a morning at the house, itÕs off to the Deerpark Restaurant for a buffet lunch. The restaurant is housed in a historic barn original to the estate. After lunch, youÕll visit the Antler Hill Village & Winery. ItÕs a casual and relaxing way to extend the Biltmore experience that connects the estateÕs past and present with dining, shopping, exhibits, world-class food and wine, and more. The all-inclusive $90-per-person tour price includes motor coach transportation, admission and the buffet lunch. Mark and Cindy Anthony are the tour escorts. What to Do Now: Sign up for the trip on the Congress registration form. The tour departs about 8 a.m. and returns around 5 p.m. This will necessitate another night at the Hyatt Regency Greenville. This advance notice will permit you to extend your reservation, and staff at the Hyatt hotel believe they can accommodate all requests. So, if you intend to register for the tour, alter your reservation; the hotel will monitor the requests and adjust accordingly. Biltmore Estate Excursion The Florida Society proudly presents Rev.
